DESCRIPTION:TIn case yo missed last one\, this is our second and final one for the year most likely.\nWe do this one every year. Let’s see the critters before they depart for the spring. Seals should be around today\, if not too windy – theyr’e fussy that way I’m told. They don’t like to rest when there’s a lot of waves due to the wind. End of March should work. We’ll meet at parking lot at 67 Hartshorne Drive which should say “Seal Parking.” Also can use parking lot at Post Chapel across street at 35 Hartshorne Drive. There should be a porta pottie nearby but use Lot B bathrooms on way in to be sure.The Mule Barn close by has bathrooms and the Lighthouse area.We’ll do a walk exploring the proving ground and village and lighthouse area and a nice beach area with some ruins and great views of Sandy Hook Bay. Then we”ll look for seals & subs Afterward we’ll head over to the Mule Barn Tavern for lunch for those interested. SUMMARY:4 mi\, + hike\, Hartshorne Woods w. Lighthouse Option & Great Lunch Too!
DESCRIPTION:WE did rocky Point trail last week so lets do the sister trail – The Grand Tour and maybe add the lighthouse loop option. \nGreat workout in only about 4.0  miles. We will begin from the Rocky Point entrance which is paved and has beautiful bathrooms and first hike 4.1 miles on the interior Grand Tour Trail. An easier self return option exists at about 2.8 miles\, though still hilly. \nAs mentioned\, we can check out twinlights lighthouse after if enough interest. \nThis is our most strenuous hike in Monmouth due to the hills and roots and rocks in some spots\, hence the “+” designation. All trials are otherwise well maintained and cleared. \nYou should not attempt unless you have been walking or otherwise staying in shape. \nBring water\, bug spray and a snack if you wish. Boots always best and poles if you want. DESCRIPTION:According to the park system\, Clayton is “one of the most beautiful parks in the Park System\, the property is known for stately stands of red and white oak\, beech\, ash and birch trees.” It has nice rolling hills and a pond and creek. Poles helpful for some. \nAfterwards we can visit Roys Deli close by. They have fair prices\, good food\, fresh backed muffins and scones and do a great job and are nice to us. \nAfer lunch we’ll head to Cream Ridge Winery\, also close by for their tastings and some music. Bring a chair if want to sit outside. They have an air conditioned room wher you can enjoy your wine and any snacks. DESCRIPTION:Time for another bike trip however instead of cruising down memory lane we’ll go down the lanes of the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway (rail trail) which runs from Allaire Village to Manasquan.\nWe’ll meet at Community Park in Wall and do our trip from there.\nPark in the municipal lot across from the playground. ( See photos). From main entrance it’s .19 mi. on right. From Bailey Rd. Entrance it’s 1st lot on left. \nWe’ll head down to the boardwalk of Manasquan first making our way thru Brielle\,  including a stop at a local pub with nice views and conitinuing over some nice bridges as well as an offroad side trip along the Manasquan inlet on some grassy trails. Wear your bathing suit under in case you want to take a dip.  We’ll end up at either Riverside Cafe or Tacoholics/Playa Bowls/Gee Gee’s Deli – your choice. There’s also ice cream for those so inclined.\nTotal trip is around 20 miles including another short side trip on the return. We should be back by around 1:15 or so.\nSee you there. DESCRIPTION:This is a great combo we’ve been doing for years. Lots of nice water views and an environmental center option too. \nPark and meet at end of  the Visitors Center lot. Bathrooms inside and porta potties enroute. \nTerrain is level and packed gravel so a walk\, not a hike but 5 miles nevertheless at normal pace of 20 min. /mile. \nBring the usual water and bug spray if using. \nAfterwards\, we’ll take an 8 min. drive over to our friends at  historic Our House Restaurant:  https://www.ourhouserestaurant.com/our-story  for their famous Sunday brunch including a free mimosa or glass of champagne if you like.  All still $25 for us including tax and tip.  Bring cash. If nice we’ll eat outside on their beautiful patio. He received his Master’s degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and went on to join The Carla Bley Big Band\, Bley later becoming a dedicated mentor. As he launched his solo career\, O’Farrill collaborated with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie\, Harry Belafonte\, Noel Pointer\, Jerry Gonzalez\, and countless others. O’Farrill is the founder and artistic director of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra (ALJO)\, which\, since its founding in 2002\, has pushed modern Afro-Latin jazz into new and innovative directions. With programs that showcase its versatility\, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra has pushed the boundaries of the genre with bold interpretations\, performing and commissioning compositions by Antonio Sánchez\, Miguel Zenón\, Dafnis Prieto\, Guillermo Klein\, Michele Rosewoman\, Vijay Iyer\, and Arturo himself\, among many others. In May 2025\, he received a Capital Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts to break ground on “Cafe Belongó”: a cultural hub and music venue\, as well as a 340-unit affordable housing project in East Harlem. A recent graduate of the prestigious Manhattan School of Music\, Kal is currently making a name for herself as a serious young musician on the New York City jazz scene. In May\, Kal was the first-place winner of the Jazz Improvisation competition at the International Trumpet Guild conference.” Iv’e heard her play with Jon Faddis – shes awesome.  \nGrab a chair or blanket and something to eat if want\, Dogs ok too. DESCRIPTION:This park is a good choice due to recent rains. It has both wooded and paved trails avaiable.  The resrevior trail drains fast but if soggy we;ll do mostly paved trails. \nLets re-explore this popular\, scenic 667 acre park which has a reservoir\, lake and 13 miles of trails and is home to the county park system and adjacent to Brookdale Community College. https://www.monmouthcountyparks.com/page.aspx?Id=2539 \nWe’ll meet at the 2nd parking lot (Old Orchard) which is on the left side of main entrance road. See map below. those wanting to only do aobut 2.5 miles\, meet at Marlu lake parking lot at 10:20 \nWe’ll do part of the reservoir loop thru scenic well maintained wooded\, level trails. Wear hiking boots or shoes and bring water. He just celebrated his 75th and still punching out the blues.He kept the show alive last year and took out his accoustic guitar instead when the power temporarily went out in the area.  \n“Chuck Lambert is a versatile blues guitarist and singer whose sound and presence is well-known across the Jersey Shore\, NYC\, and Philadelphia\, but is most loved in his hometown of Red Bank\, NJ. While attending Lafayette College in the early 70’s\, he was a member of the Tim McCabe Blues Gang\, whose primary function was to play backup for touring blues legends on the East Coast college circuit. It was then that he was able to play for legends such as John Lee Hooker\, J.B. Hutto\, and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Lambert is a member of the Norman Seldin Big Band\, The Panama Chapel Band\, The Cal Vetrane Blues Band\, The Haugenes Project\, and a guest artist with The Red Bank Blues Band\, Heavy Soul\, Herd of Blues\, Al Holmes and The Tribe\, and Poppa John and The Jam Band\, among many others.
