Considered one of the best and most prolific jazz pianists in the world – coming here once again to Red Bank.

“Arturo O’Farrill is a prolific pianist, composer, educator, and social advocate whose career escapes finite categorization. He received his Master’s degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and went on to join The Carla Bley Big Band, Bley later becoming a dedicated mentor. As he launched his solo career, O’Farrill collaborated with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Harry Belafonte, Noel Pointer, Jerry Gonzalez, and countless others. O’Farrill is the founder and artistic director of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra (ALJO), which, since its founding in 2002, has pushed modern Afro-Latin jazz into new and innovative directions. With programs that showcase its versatility, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra has pushed the boundaries of the genre with bold interpretations, performing and commissioning compositions by Antonio Sánchez, Miguel Zenón, Dafnis Prieto, Guillermo Klein, Michele Rosewoman, Vijay Iyer, and Arturo himself, among many others. In May 2025, he received a Capital Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts to break ground on “Cafe Belongó”: a cultural hub and music venue, as well as a 340-unit affordable housing project in East Harlem. O’Farrill is a recent recipient of the Jazz Arts Hero Award, which was awarded at the 2026 Jazz Arts Project “Havana Nights” Gala.
